Mobile development with swift and flutter

uBlock Origin Light and Firefox

Came across an interesting tale of woe about one developer response to Firefox’s bureaucratic system. In some ways it mirrors developer experience with Apple and its App Store policies for years. I view the web as a place of unbridled freedom to develop for. Turns out the modern browser extension is not as free and fun to publish as I thought. There are random rejections, lazy or incompetent reviewers, and tech giant gate keeping. Pretty much like the mobile app scene. The story was highlighted in an episode of Security Now. Check out the below video snippet.

The full SecurityNow podcast segment can be heard here @ 1:59:29 (about 15min). The full github post from gorhill and the resulting discussion can be found here.

Final Thoughts

This really reminded me of my experience trying to get ChatBar through the macOS AppStore review process. After making multiple changes to the app to appease the review Gods I landed in a similar place. I do have ideas for how to use the knowledge and experience in a new app that should make it through the approval process. The issue there is I will have to build it and see.

Happy Coding ;-)
