AppleVision A Computing Platform?

Today Apple announced it latest general computing platform. Since it’s actually WWDC the focus was on the amazing opportunity for developers on VisionOS. From a pure technology perspective it is amazing. It boasts best ever resolution, eye tracking, and some neat gesture recognition.

However there are a few obvious problems.

• Its freaking expensive ($3,499)! Oh, and thats for the 256GB model. (What the Hell Apple!).

• The Apple developer relationship is and has been strained for some time. Why would anyone spend time developing for this new platform given Apple’s build it and maybe it will get approved, also make sure you use in app purchase so we get 30% rent seeking behavior of late.

• Finally, and probably most important. Despite the obvious marketing spin calling this a new general computing platform. It amounts to an iPad for your face. Which means it will have all the limitations of the iPad as well as any new constraints inherit to the platform.

Given all of the above I don’t plan on doing any development for this platform.
